VISIT OF MR J.S. MUKUL, JOINT SECRETARY (TC), MEA  (DECEMBER 7, 2010)

 

The Director General of Technical Training and Cooperation Department of the Ministry of External Affairs of India visited Vietnam to review Indian scholarship programmes. During his visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Mr Mukul gave a presentation on India’s ITEC scholarship programmes at a function organised by the Consulate General of India in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendships Organisations.  He also interacted with some ITEC alumni and visited SOFRI in My Tho province.

FELICITATION OF MISS EARTH NICOLE FARIA OF INDIA

To felicitate the victory of Miss Nicole Faria of India at the Miss Earth 2010 contest held in Vietnam, a reception was held at the Consulate General on December 9, 2010, for nearly 100 members of the Indian community. Miss Faria’s victory was the first victory for India at an international beauty pageant in almost ten years. The Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam and Indian community representatives congratulated her on the achievement.

INCREDIBLE INDIA: BUDDHIST DESTINATION ROADSHOW

The Government of India Tourist Office in Singapore and The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) in collaboration with Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City organised the ‘Incredible India: Buddhist Destination’ presentation on December 10, 2010 at the Hotel Rex Saigon. The event was attended by more than 100 invitees which included leading tour operators, tourist and hospitality companies, media and individuals from related sectors. The programme included opening remarks by Consul General Abhay Thakur; a power-point presentation by Mr. Nalin Shinghal, Director (Tourism & Marketing), IRCTC on the “Mahaparinirvana” Buddhist circuit train package; a presentation by Mr. Rajesh Talwar, Director, India Tourist Office, Singapore on “Incredible India”; remarks by Mr. Le Phuoc Vu, Chairman of Hoa Sen Group of Companies on his experience of travel to India as a Buddhist destination; remarks by Most. Ven. Thich Thien Tam, Vice President of the HCMC Buddhist Sangha; and a presentation by tour operator M/s Air Asia. The IRCTC Buddhist train package tour ‘Mahaparinirvana’ is a convenient and comfortable way to cover major Buddhist sites including Bodh Gaya (where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment), Sarnath (where he gave sermons), Lumbini (in Nepal – his birthplace), Nalanda, Rajgir, Kushinagar and Shravasti. The train package tariff rates ranging from US$ 105 to US$ 150 per head per night include a/c train travel, meals, connecting road transportation, hotel accommodation, sightseeing, tour guide, entrance fees and travel insurance.
